Winamp tweaks and fixes

Winamp volume randomly falls to nearly inaudible levels.

This is easy to correct, although not easily explainable. I'm still not sure why this works and how Winamp decides to interpret this setting, but it does work. I experienced this issue randomly with Winamp while changing video files as well as after plugging in a USB stick.
  1. Right-click the speaker icon in your Windows System Tray.
  2. Select Open Volume Mixer.
  3. Click the System Sounds icon.
  4. In the Sound window that opens, click on the Communications tab.
  5. Tick the Do nothing button and then OK.

Install the AC3Filter codec pack

Installing too many codec packs, in my experience, can cause issues. I've found that installing the ac3filter pack works for 99% of all the videos I download torrent borrow watch. Download it from http://www.ac3filter.net and be done with it.

Use VLC Media Player when all else fails

When all else fails and Winamp cannot play something, VideoLan's VLC Media Player will. For the way I watch media on my PC, Winamp's playlist is superior to all. However, VLC simply plays everything including the humongous MKV container format. Download it at http://www.videolan.org/vlc/index.html and enjoy.
